Centre declares Chacha Chaudhary as mascot for Namami Gange project

The Ministry of Jal Shakti on October 1 announced that comic book character Chacha Chaudhary has been selected as the mascot for the Centre’s Namami Gange Programme.

“At the 37th Executive Committee meeting of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), chaired by Shri Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Director General, NMCG, Chacha Chaudhary was declared as the mascot of the Namami Gange Programme and some major projects in Uttar-Pradesh and Bihar were discussed and evaluated,” an official release stated.

At an estimated budget of ₹2.26 crore, the National Mission for Clean Ganga plans to develop and distribute comics, animated videos and e-comics featuring Chacha Chaudhary to educate children towards Ganga and other rivers.

The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has been focusing on youngsters as part of its outreach and public communications efforts to keep the Ganga clean and pollution-free.

Who is Chacha Chaudhary?

Chacha Chaudhary is an Indian comic book character, created by cartoonist Pran Kumar Sharma. The comic comes in ten Indian languages including Hindi and English and has sold over ten million copies.

It has also been made into a television series with Raghubir Yadav playing the role of Chacha Chaudhary.
