In the latest 24 hours, India has detected 2,17,353 new Covid-19 infections. 1,1185 people have died due to the viral infection, the health bulletin said.
This is the second straight day that the country is reporting over two lakh cases and the sixth straight day of over 1.5 lakh daily cases.
With this, India’s Covid tally has shot up to 14,291,917 cases. Last week India replaced Brazil as the 2nd worst-hit nation in terms of total Covid-19 cases, now it has the second-highest active cases too.
Maharashtra, the country’s worst-hit state, reported 61,695 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 36,39,855, while 349 new fatalities pushed the death count to 59,153. The state is under a strict curfew till the end of April. In terms of the total caseload, Maharashtra is followed by the southern states of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
Coronavirus cases rise unabated across the globe with 139,660,993 infected by the deadly contagion. While 111,604,556 have recovered, 2,984,891 have died so far. The US remains the worst-hit country with 32,223,714, followed by India, Brazil, France, and Russia. However, in terms of the total number of active cases, US tops the charts, followed by India, Brazil, France, and Russia.
