West Bengal: Bikaner-Guwahati Express derails at Mainaguri, six dead; PM speaks to Railway Minister

At least six people are feared dead and around 45 are injured after 12 coaches of Guwahati-Bikaner Express derailed in Domohani area of West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on Thursday evening.

Twelve coaches of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express train derailed and some overturned near Domohani in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on Thursday.

“Spoke to railways minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw and took stock of the situation in the wake of the train accident in West Bengal. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly,” PM Modi tweeted.

“Deeply concerned to hear about the tragic accident of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express in Maynaguri. Senior Officers of the State Government, DM/SP/IG North Bengal are supervising rescue and relief operations. Those injured will receive medical attention, as early as possible,” Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted.

The railways ministry has announced ex gratia of ₹5 lakh for deceased, ₹1 lakh for severely injured, and ₹25,000 for those with minor injuries.
