Pornhub, the world’s most popular porn site, this week removed millions of videos uploaded by unverified users after backlash following a New York Times article that said the site had too many videos of children being exploited and abused.

In a response to the allegations, Pornhub said it will no longer accept uploads from unidentified users.

“As part of our policy to ban unverified uploaders, we have now also suspended all previously uploaded content that was not created by content partners or members of the Model Program,” Pornhub said in a statement.

“This means every piece of it’s content is from verified uploaders, a requirement that platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat and Twitter have yet to institute,” it added.

The company has also announced to publish its first transparency report in 2021.

Pornhub attracts 3.5 billion visits a month, more than Netflix, Yahoo or Amazon. Pornhub rakes in money from almost three billion ad impressions a day. One ranking lists it as the 10th-most-visited website in the world.

Before the content purge, Pornhub hosted around 13.5 million videos, a large number of them from unverified accounts and after the action, the number was 7.2 million.
