Rapper Divine becomes the first Indian rapper to be featured on the billboard in Times Square.
The harder the struggle, the more glorious the triumph. This quote has been proved in a best way by the Indian rapper Divine. Vivian Fernandes, best known by his stage name divine has become the first Indian rapper to be featured on the billboard in Times Square.
Divine unveiled his album “Punya Paap”,on December 4, and it has claimed the top spot on Apple Music India (all genres) since its release.
For his latest album, Divine collaborated with musicians such as hip-hop veteran Nas, British Drill rapper Dutchavelli, Indian American singer-songwriter Lisa Mishra, Grammy winning producer iLL Wayno, Grammy winning singer-songwriter Cocoa Sarai, and Dancehall artiste Stylo G.
After being featured on a billboard in New York’s Times Square, Divine said:“This is the sign that the story of HipHop in India is no longer confined to nascent perspective, it is burgeoning and we are headed for exciting times.”
Now Divine has been featured on the Spotify Times Square Billboard for the album.
The rapper also mentioned that his last album had ‘secured a spot on the YouTube Top 100 Global Songs recently’ which was a first for him in ‘regards to a global charting’. Taking about being on the Times Square the rapper added- “And now that we’ve made it to the iconic Times Square. This is a sign that the story of hip-hop in India is no longer confined to a nascent perspective but it’s burgeoning and we are headed for exciting times. Life is good and I’m grateful.”
Earlier this year in March, Bollywood singer Armaan Malik had charted history by becoming the first Indian to be featured on the Times Square Billboard for his English single ‘Control’.
