Mass Vaccination against Covid-19 started in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Food and Drug Authority approved the registration and use of vaccine against COVID-19 produced by the American company Pfizer and its German partner Bio-Ntech.

After the first shipment of Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine Saudi Arabia started the mass vaccination drive against the deadly Coronavirus. “This is beginning of the end of crisis” said Saudi Health Minister Tawfiq al-Rabiah who along with a woman in wheelchair and another man were among the first to be vaccinated.

People aged above 65 and with chronic ailments or high risk of infection will be prioritized for vaccination in the country. Whereas, in the second phase people aged above 50 will be vaccinated. Everyone else will receive the vaccine in the third phase.

Saudi Arabia has till date recorded more than 360000 covid-19 cases with more than 6000 deaths. In the Kingdom with more than 34 million population more than 100000 people have registered so far to receive the vaccine through online application Sehaty as informed by the Ministry. The Ministry also added that vaccination would be free for all the citizens and residents.

In recent months Saudi Arabia has managed to significantly reduce the surge of covid-19 cases and the recovery rate has also been better.

Britain, Canada and the United States have also approved the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine and have already launched mass vaccination campaigns.

After fighting with the virus for more than a year now the world seems to have hope of eradicating the deadly covid-19 with the vaccines completely.
